They say good things come to those who wait.

Adrienne White might agree wholeheartedly when it comes to earning a spot in the CN Canadian Women's Open, even though her little ticker has taken quite the beating while tending to patience two straight years.

Just as she did last year in Ottawa, the Red Deer golfer had to wait for hours yesterday after completing her round in the Monday qualifier to find out if she'd won a spot in the annual LPGA event at Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club.

She did, after firing an even-par 72 at the Calgary Elks Lodge & Golf Club, joining three other qualifiers for the 2009 CN Canadian Women's Open.

"It was a lot of nerves, a lot of waiting," said White, 25. "I didn't think I was going to hold up.

"Everybody was asking me how it was going to play out, if I was going to qualify," White continued. "I had to go hit balls so I didn't go crazy."

Some seven hours after she teed off, White learned she'd earned one of four qualifying spots via cellphone from her dad. She could be seen jumping for joy while at the practice tees.

"It's pretty exciting," White said. "But I'm trying to focus and remember it's only one step.

"In my first LPGA event last year, I really didn't know what to expect, and it was overwhelming.

"It's a big event. And so this time, I'm going to focus more on golf than on the event."

South Korean Jimin Jeong carded a 2-under 70 to win the event, while Texan Sarah Butler finished with a 71 and Washington State's Eryenne Lee joined White at 72.

As a result, all four will play in the Canadian Women's Open beginning Thursday.

Among the 45 other hopefuls, Calgarians Ashley Smith (73), Raman Saran (76), Jennifer Ha (77), Jillian Wynne (77), Nicole Zhang (78), Kim Carrington (79), Cindy Pasechnik (83) and Lisa (Longball) Vlooswyk (90) failed to qualify.

Calgary native Jade Polonich, who played in the 2007 CN Canadian Women's Open in Edmonton, was White's caddie for the qualifier.
