Lincicome a big hit on tour

Brittany Lincicome drives the ball an average of 269.6 yards off the tee, farther than anyone else on the LPGA Tour. She's tall and strong, but gets her distance from a smooth swing with her Adams Insight Beauty driver, playing a slight draw for maximum roll.

"It's probably the best driver I've ever hit," she said.

Better let her play through.

Lincicome, 22, is part of a new generation of celebrity-like golfers -- which includes, among others, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel -- who grew up playing junior golf together and has taken the LPGA by storm.

"We don't get to hang out as much as we used to in junior golf, with our different schedules and appearances, but we try to if we can," she said.

Her best friend on the tour is Angela Stanford, who is also competing at the CN Women's Canadian Open.

"There are about four of us who like to play cards," said Lincicome. "We play Spades, but we play for brags, we don't play for money."

On the course, they play for money. At the Canadian Open, $2.25 million worth.

Lincicome, of Seminole, Fla., won tournaments in 2006 and 2007, and took home more than $850,000 both years.

But even though she is tops in driving distance, she is winless this year and 86th on the money list, earning less than $100,000.

Drive for show, putt for dough, they say.

"It's been a little rough so far," said Lincicome, who hits a 7-iron from 150 yards. "I feel I'm hitting it pretty good now, but it's the six inches between the ears that counts. This would be a great tournament to win, and hopefully jumpstart the last couple of tournaments we have and make the bad start to the year I had a good finish."
