Cristie Kerr is eager to defend her Canadian Open championship.

"We've been looking forward to this since last year when we won the tournament at London Hunt Club," she said before her Pro-Am round with Wayne Gretzky.

"It was just an amazing victory. We came back from seven or eight shots to win, just a dream come true."

She knows it won't be easy making it two in a row.

"I think it's very difficult. I've won 10 tournaments now and I've not succeeded in defending, and that's been one of my biggest goals since I won my first tournament five years ago. I definitely would love to give it a good run this week."

Her recent win at the U.S. Women's Open gives her both national titles, at least until Sunday, prompting Gretzky to say she owns all of North America.

She definitely owns a small part of Edmonton. Her caddie, Jason Gilroyed, is from here, so there's going to be a guaranteed rooting section.

"For him to be in his hometown and playing here in front of his friends and family, (it's) just really special for us, and we're going to make a run at defending."
