The stars of the LPGA are returning to Ottawa.

It was announced yesterday that the 2008 CN Canadian Women's Open will be held at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, confirming an earlier report by Sun golf writer Chris Stevenson.

It will mark the third occasion the event has been staged in the nation's capital, with American Martha Nause winning at the Hunt Club in 1994 and American Meg Mallon taking the title at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in 2000.

'EXCITING OPPORTUNITY'

"It is an exciting opportunity for us, as we celebrate our centennial year, to showcase our championship course and newly renovated facilities," Gary Beech, president of the landmark course, said in a written statement. "The Ottawa area is home to a large and enthusiastic golf community, and as past championship events at the Hunt Club have proven, I know they will fully support the CN Canadian Women's Open, both as spectators and volunteers."

The 2008 CN Canadian Women's Open will take place from Aug. 11-17.
