The pair of Sophie Gustafson and Anna Nordqvist combined to shoot a four-under 68 on Sunday to give Sweden a successful title defense at the European Nations Cup.

"It was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't be happier, standing here," Nordqvist told reporters. "We had a fun team this week and it was exciting to pull out some great golf out there, so we're really happy."

Sweden finished at 21-under 267 and won by three strokes over the German pair of Anja Monke and Caroline Masson, who posted a 65, and the English duo of Laura Davies and Melissa Red, who teamed for a 66.

The Welsh twosome of Becky Brewerton and Lydia Hall carded a 68 and came in fourth at minus-17.

Play was contested in The Valencian Cup format, which is a variation on Greensomes. Each player tees off with one ball, but the partners swap and play alternative balls until they have played the number of shots expected to reach the green in regulation. When they have played one shot on a par-three, two shots on a par-four or three shots on a par-five, they choose the best position and take alternate shots using one ball until completing the hole.
