Europe rallies to win Royal Trophy

Hua Hin, Thailand - European captain Colin Montgomerie beat Kyung-tae Kim to give Europe the lead Sunday, then Pablo Martin and Johan Edfors sealed the victory as Europe beat Asia, 9-7, at the Royal Trophy.

Montgomerie's win gave Europe a 7 1/2 - 6 1/2 lead. Martin held off Jeev Milkha Singh, 1-up, to clinch the victory. Edfors and Thongchai Jaidee halved the final match to set the final score of 9-7 at Black Mountain Golf Club.

The final two days saw dramatic swings. The teams split the four foursomes matches on Friday, before Asia swept the four fourball matches on Saturday to grab a 6-2 lead.

On Sunday, the Europeans won six of the eight singles matches, while the remaining two were halved.

Jaidee and Seung-yul Noh got the only points for Asian team captain Joe Ozaki on Sunday.

Peter Hanson started the European rally on Sunday as he trounced Wen-chong Liang, 7 & 6. Noh and Stenson halved the second match. Fredrik Andersson Hed took down Yuta Ikeda, then Rhys Davies beat Ryo Ishikawa.

Italian teenager Matteo Manassero squared the match at 6 1/2 - 6 1/2 with a 1- up win over Shunsuke Sonoda.

Europe beat Asia for the fourth time in five tries in this event.
