Four years ago, on the opposite side of the city, Joe Panzeri’s close pal put his name on this same trophy.

Graham DeLaet is now a fixture on the PGA Tour.

Panzeri is optimistic his triumph this week at the 2013 ATB Financial Classic at Country Hills Talons will be a stepping stone to eventually joining his friend and mentor on the biggest stage in golf.

“Everybody wants to get to the next level — Web.com and then the PGA Tour — and I feel like today’s win definitely solidified to myself that I can get to the next level,” Panzeri said after Friday’s final round, when the 27-year-old put an exclamation point on a two-stroke victory with a birdie on the last hole.

“To put my name on the trophy with a lot of great names and my good buddy Graham, it’s pretty special.”
