JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Pete Carroll isn't afraid to act this way anymore. To coach this way anymore. Or to admit it anymore.

He's a pure-grade "rah-rah" football coach. All enthusiasm, all the time.

Actually, he'd probably prefer it be put like this, which is more accurate anyway: he's all about all effort, all the time.

Every game is a championship game. That's how he coaches. There are no big games because every game is the biggest game.

Sounds like a horrible cliche.

But that's the marrow of the Pete Carroll 2.0 mantra. And that, even more than even his creative, suffocating defensive schemes, is the secret to his stunning renaissance as a head football coach this century, after he ended the last one as a laughed-at failure with two teams in the NFL.
