One of the big matchups in the Super Bowl will be how Peyton Manning fares against Seattle’s vaunted ‘Legion of Boom,’ the colourful nickname given to the Seahawks defensive secondary.

The most famous member of the LOB these days is Richard Sherman, who jumped into the public’s eye for his great play in the end zone during the closing seconds of Seattle’s victory over San Francisco last Sunday. Sherman jumped and tipped the ball away from receiver Michael Crabtree and into the arms of teammate Malcolm Smith to seal the victory, then added to his fame with a colourful and controversial post-game rant on ESPN-TV.

While Sherman may be the most visible and celebrated member of Seattle’s secondary, it is far from being a one-man gang.

The two safeties are Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas and no team can match those two as far as their quickness to the ball and jolting tackles.
