It was long ago and far away in NFL terms, but there is a playoff history between Philip Rivers and Peyton Manning.
The quarterbacks who will lead their teams onto the gridiron at Sports Authority Field on Sunday, have met twice before in the playoffs — in the 2007 and 2008 seasons when Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts. Rivers and the San Diego Chargers were prohibitive underdogs both times, and won both games. This time, the No. 6-seeded Chargers are 9½-point underdogs against Manning and the No. 1-seeded Denver Broncos.
Not that it means that much to either man.
