Candlestick Park’s run might be officially over but, just in case, they’ve left a light on for the 49ers.

Two weeks after they delivered last rites to the stadium that has been home to the 49ers since 1971, there remains a faint hope that San Francisco could host the NFC Championship game.

For that to happen, the sixth-seeded New Orleans Saints would need to beat Seattle this Saturday and the fifth-seeded 49ers would need to beat the Panthers in Carolina on Sunday.

That would set up one last waltz for the ’Stick, where, for decades rogue winds off San Francisco Bay drove outfielders and wide receivers crazy.

If another game needs to be played there, workers are going to have to repair some 140 seats that were ruined by fans at the Dec. 23 finale as they tried to remove them as souvenirs. Also, there’s a 900-square foot area of sod at centre field that will have to be replaced. The paint that was used for a special logo on Dec. 23, made a mess of the turf.
