It was appropriate behaviour, perhaps, given that it was the strategy that drove him and his team all the way to the Super Bowl title.

The Baltimore Ravens of 10 years ago were all about defence, so coach Brian Billick had barely stepped off the plane in Tampa when he set the tone for the week and the game that awaited.

If you get the impression the heat is dialed up on Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis this week, you should have seen it then.

It was only a year after the “incident” in Atlanta that has tailed Lewis since, the accusations and later exoneration of double murder charges at a Super Bowl bash in Atlanta. The Ravens made it to the big game the next year to take on the New York Giants and cloaked in notoriety, Lewis was the face of the team.
