Top five observations from the Ravens' Mile High Miracle

DENVER - Like any hardcore NFL town, they take their losses hard here and the latest Broncos shocker brought back memories of one 16 years earlier.

The Mile High Miracle engineered by the Baltimore Ravens — a 38-35 double OT thriller on Saturday night — was not the first time a heavily favoured Denver team was defeated at home in the playoffs.

Just as expectations were massive for the Broncos and their new franchise quarterback Peyton Manning on Saturday, back in the 1997, similar hopes followed John Elway. Like this year’s version, those Broncs had figured to challenge for the Super Bowl and were favoured by 14½ points over the Jacksonville Jaguars, only to fall 30-27.

Let’s just say the parallels were drawn in the odd saloon here late Saturday night.
