CHICAGO - As if Chicago Bears fans didn't have enough to worry about regarding Jay Cutler, what with his history of throwing interceptions at the worst possible time, along comes something just as sinister regarding their chances of beating Green Bay in Sunday's NFC Championship game.
How about the Jessica Simpson factor.
Down in Dallas, Simpson is looked upon as the blonde bimbo who brought nothing but misfortune to quarterback Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys when the two were courting.
The worry in Chicago is that Cutler will have his own Simpson moment regarding the fortunes of the Bears given that he is engaged in what the late, great Frank Magazine would call a leg-over with Kristen Cavallari, a reality TV star of The Hills fame.
"Things are really good," Cavallari said recently of their relationship.
"I'm just enjoying my personal life and taking a little time away from the public eye, which is why Chicago is great for me. My mom and that whole side of the family is there. And Jay is there. It's nice to be able to hang out with my mom, and, you know, I'm in love and it's been great."
In Chicago, columnist Bill Zwecker of the Sun-Times penned a piece where he wrote that an unidentified close friend of Cutler said the two "don't want to have a Jessica Simpson problem."
The ďproblem' in question being they don't want the relationship to have any kind of on-field impact, something that Dallas fans believe doomed the Cowboys.
"If she does show up this weekend, you can bet she will do nothing to interfere with Jay's preparation for that game," the source was quoted in the Sun-Times.
"She wants him to focus on winning as much as any diehard Bears fan."
If Cutler has a bad day, though, Cavallari may well want to be on the first plane out of town.
