FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- The Indianapolis Colts' star quarterback, Peyton Manning and his centre, Jeff Saturday, are about as close as football players get.
Constantly communicating on the field, Manning and Saturday have also formed a strong friendship off the turf in the last 11 years.
"There isn't a player that I have as much respect for as Peyton," said Saturday. "He takes all of the pressure on his shoulders because he knows he can meet the expectations. I am really lucky to have played my whole career in his company."
Saturday also said it was "phenomenal" to see the work Manning puts into his preparations each week.
"He's one of the best players in NFL history and its a pleasure to line up with him each week," said the 34-year-old centre.
The two are golf bodies, said Saturday, who also sits next to Manning in the dressing room and the planes. The two are also roommates on the road.
"We have developed affinities over the years," said Saturday.
Manning spoke just as highly of his teammate.
"Without Jeff, I don't think we'd be here this week," said Manning. "I was really scared this summer that we would lose him on the free agent market. I'll always be grateful for what Jeff does for me."
Communication between the two is key during a game and Saturday has to react quickly to the complicated audibles called by Manning at the line of scrimmage.
"He has to quickly call (out the play changes to the linemen) and then block an almost 300-pound nose guard."
