The Buffalo Bills picked up the fifth-year option on defensive tackle Marcell Dareus on Friday, general manager Doug Whaley said.

Dareus, drafted fourth overall in the 2011 draft, had 7.5 sacks last season after notching 5.5 in each of his first two years.

Under terms of the current collective bargaining agreement, NFL teams have the right with first-round draft picks only to add another year to their standard four-year rookie contract. The salary is determined by a formula and is non-negotiable.

The deadline for informing such players is May 3.
