Elvis Dumervil is saying all of the right things, and Darrelle Revis isn’t saying much of anything, but they will be two of the central talking points as the National Football League season kicks off this week.
In a curious twist of the schedule, both will be playing for new teams; both will be playing against their former clubs; both after leaving those teams under controversial circumstances.
Both are trying to remain very diplomatic. There is a hint of regret about the past. There is a note of sadness that their football paths took unexpected turns. But there is not talk of retribution.
There might be such thoughts. There usually are for players when they face former teams. Still such thoughts are rarely spoken.
But there is untold pleasure in winning against any team, against any organization, that has slammed the door of opportunity.
So it is that Dumervil finds himself in Baltimore, not in Denver.
