Quarterback EJ Manuel is out.

In a shocker of an announcement less than 24 hours after he appeared to nail down the starting job with the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Saturday afternoon that the rookie injured his left knee Friday night against Minnesota and requires "minor" corrective surgery.

"EJ Manuel had some swelling in his left knee this morning and was examined by our medical staff," head coach Doug Marrone said in a statement.

"An MRI revealed that he will need to have a minor knee procedure and that has been scheduled. He will miss the remainder of the preseason and then be re-evaluated at that time. Kevin Kolb will be our starting quarterback for this weekend's game at Washington."
