PHILADELPHIA - Hours after a video showing him using the N-word at a Kenny Chesney concert in June went viral, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper apologized at a hastily called news conference.

“There was a confrontation with me and one of the security guards, and I’m not going to get into what happened, but I said something that was absolutely disgusting and terrible, and I should not have handled it the way I handled it,” a sombre Cooper said late Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, local sports blog CrossingBroad.com obtained the video footage and posted it online.

At Chesney’s June 10 concert in Philadelphia, Cooper is shown yelling the following racial slur to someone behind the video camera person:

“I will jump that fence and fight every n----- here, bro,” Cooper says in the video.

Cooper is white.
