49ers, not Smith, will decide where QB goes

Everybody believes that San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith got the shaft.

Even fans of Colin Kaepernick could concede that.

Kaepernick may or may not have elevated the 49ers offence but there is no disputing the simple fact that Smith lost his starting job due to an injury and that is considered a no-no in pro sport.

The shakedown of past events means that Smith will either be traded or released. That will all come to pass.

One thing the 49ers want to make clear, though, is that Smith is not going to be calling the tune. They will not be catering to him to insure that he has a soft landing.

“I don’t think any player has those wishes granted when they’re under contract,” San Fran coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters when asked if Smith could receive special consideration. “And everything’s different and every scenario is unique. Certainly (that is) something that we’re not going to delve into and get into specifics at this point.”
