Knee surgery for Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III is going under the knife.

According to the NFL Network, RG3 will undergo surgery later this week to repair damage to his lateral collateral ligament. During the operation, renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews is expected to see just how bad the state of RG3’s injured ACL in his right knee really is.

Griffin was hurt during the Redskins’ 24-14 wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, sparking controversy about if he should have continued in the game when it became obvious that his right knee was hurt.

Both Griffin and coach Mike Shanahan insist the injury came as a part of football, not from neglect on either of their parts.

He originally hurt the knee Dec. 9 during a home game against the Baltimore Ravens. At that time the original injury was diagnosed as a sprain.


Part of the blame for Sunday’s injury is being attributed to the shoddy field conditions at FedEx Field, which is being described as painted
