The Buffalo Bills introduced Doug Marrone, the 16th head coach in team history, on Monday to a healthy and equal mix of trepidation and encouragement.

The operative word of the day was "risk." For everyone who applauded the gamble, there were those who were just as loudly lamenting the lack of a proven NFL resume coming in like a Ken Whisenhunt, recently let go by the Arizona Cardinals, or Lovie Smith, who recently lost the head job in Chicago.

Marrone does bring NFL experience, just not at the head coaching level. Seven of his 21 years of coaching experience have come in the NFL including three seasons from 2006-08 as the offensive co-ordinator with the New Orleans Saints under head coach Sean Payton.
