Michael Sam and the Cowboys seem like a match made in Texas

In retrospect, it is amazing that we all didn’t recognize the Dallas Cowboys and Michael Sam would be a perfect fit.

If there is one team that does not care what people think about it — any attention is good attention where owner Jerry Jones is concerned — it is the Cowboys.

If there is one team capable of ignoring any backlash that could come with the signing of the NFL’s first openly gay player, Sam, it is the Cowboys.

And, most importantly, if there is one team that desperately needs a talented defender like Sam, it is the woeful Cowboys, a team some have labelled contenders to be amongst the worst defensive squads ever.

Of course, there is no guarantee Sam ever plays a down for Dallas — he was inked to the practice squad on Wednesday, days after being released by St. Louis and the team repeatedly passed on him at the draft, despite a plethora of seventh-round selections — but this makes a lot of sense for all involved.
