The NFL is based on violence. Even intimidation. Football is inherently, so.

Everyone accepts that. But this is getting ridiculous.

The lines of the playing field and what is, and isn’t, acceptable are becoming very blurry.

The NFL suspended Ray Rice for knocking out his wife, then dragging her unconcious body from an elevator.

That offence netted him two games and a rousing welcome from Baltimore fans at an open practice this week. As deterents go, they might as well have shook his hand and congratulated him for not leaving a mess in the elevator!

It netted the league a litany of grief on social media. This week, senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, sent letters to Goodell and Ravens’ GM Ozzie Newsome seeking a tougher penalty. And, good luck with that, eh.
