Josh Gordon is invoking the Rebagliati Defence.

It didn’t really work for the Canadian snowboarder. Gordon can only hope that in the end, it works out as happily for him as it did for Ross Rebagliati.

If it doesn’t Gordon will spend the next year watching the NFL from the man-cave couch.

Rebagliati briefly lost his snowboarding gold at the 1998 Winter Games after testing positive for marijuana. He got it back three days later when it was pointed out to the International Olympic Committee that — regardless how the drug got into Rebagliati’s system — THC, the drug’s active ingredient, wasn’t even on its banned list.

The Cleveland Browns’ receiver doesn’t appear likely to squeeze through a similar loophole. The NFL doesn’t care how a banned substance gets into a player’s body; the mere fact it’s there is enough to get a player suspended.
