Ray Rice married Janay Palmer on Friday, one day after the Baltimore Ravens running back was indicted by a grand jury on third-degree aggravated assault for allegedly knocking Palmer unconscious, according to ESPN.

Plans for the wedding were hatched a couple of weeks ago. The alleged assault occurred in February.

Rice was arrested and charged Feb. 15 with simple assault-domestic violence following an altercation with his then-fiancee at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J.

The 27-year-old star rusher faces a three-to-five year prison sentence if convicted of aggravated assault.

Palmer, 26, was also charged with simple assault following the incident but that complaint has been dismissed.

Video showing Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer out of an elevator was published by TMZ shortly after the initial charges were filed. Rice’s lawyer, Michael Diamondstein, verified the authenticity of the footage, but added that it’s incomplete.

“We deny that he committed an aggravated assault,” Diamondstein told ESPN on Thursday. “We don't think the law would support that (he did). And we just ask the public to reserve judgment until all of the facts are out.”

Diamondstein also told The Press of Atlantic City on Thursday that neither Rice nor Palmer want to move forward with the case.

“Both Mr. Rice and Miss Palmer are together, they are happy and they're in counselling,” he said.
