If there had been any doubt, the Denver Broncos have informed the NFL they are serious about winning the Super Bowl.

Like, this year. Next year, latest. Some guy named Peyton Manning likely will retire by that point.

The mission in the Mile High City clearly is to send arguably the best passer in NFL history into retirement with a second Super Bowl championship and the franchise’s third. And maybe more.

Unsatisfied with merely possessing the most prolific offence in NFL history in 2013, along with the best regular-season record (13-3) and a breeze run to the AFC championship, the Broncos dropped jaws around the league with three high-impact free-agent signings within 24 hours of the start of the new league year Tuesday afternoon.

After signing the best available box safety in T.J. Ward and top cornerback in Aqib Talib by late Tuesday night, on Wednesday the Broncos beat the league to DeMarcus Ware, one of the best pure pass rushers in the NFL this century whom the Dallas Cowboys unloaded Tuesday afternoon for cap reasons.
