INDIANAPOLIS - Jim Harbaugh nearly became head coach of the Cleveland Browns last month.

That’s right. The Brownies. In a trade.

Crazy! But apparently true.

In a bombshell report, ProFootballTalk.com’s Mike Florio late Friday afternoon cited “multiple league sources” in revealing that a deal had been in place for the San Francisco 49ers to send their head coach to the Browns for “multiple draft picks.”

But Harbaugh got cold feet at the last moment and scotched the trade.

In the media work room at Lucas Oil Stadium, jaws dropped as word of the report spread.

Neither the Browns nor the Niners immediately denied the report.

The GM of the Browns at the time, Mike Lombardi, is known to be close to Harbaugh, who hired Lombardi’s son, Mick, as an assistant last year, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
