The NFL just loves the fact that the final playoff picture remains as clear as mud, the fact there are so many balloons still up in the air.

Hope, optimism and desperation are all rolled into one on Week 17, the final week of play of the regular season with a multitude of win-and-in scenarios.

Hope and optimism, however, took a decided hit in Dallas with the news that Tony Romo is gone for the season due to a back injury.

Head coach Jason Garrett said Monday that Romo’s status remains undetermined and he is getting treatment. Unless a miracle occurs, Romo is done and that fact takes a lot of excitement and delight out of their game against Philadelphia.

The Cowboys have won nothing with Romo in action so who knows, maybe Kyle Orton can conjure up some magic?
