It was supposed to be a tight battle between two division leaders.

Instead, Andy Dalton and the Bengals made a major statement against Andrew Luck and the Colts on Sunday.

Cincinnati’s defence put the clamps on Luck early and Dalton and BenJarvus Green-Ellis led the Bengals to a stunning 21-0 lead in frigid conditions in Ohio.

Dalton threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the eventual 42-28 win that ran the Bengals’ record to a perfect 6-0 at home so far.

Both teams came in 8-4 and Cincinnati gained a firm hold on third place in the AFC and first in the AFC North.

“We know what we’re capable of, and we’ve got some momentum now,” said Dalton afterward.

“But we’ve got to keep it going.”

Everyone was wondering if Luck could play in a chilly setting — at first it appeared the talk he couldn’t was correct — but Luck threw for four touchdowns in the second half and 326 yards overall.
