A year ago this week the Atlanta Falcons co-owned the best record in the NFL at 10-1. They ended the season 10 agonizing yards short of a Super Bowl berth.

This week, the Falcons co-own the worst record in the league at 2-9, and are already mathematically out of the playoff hunt.

As precipitous one-year plummets go, theirs is as stunning as any in NFL annals.

When the league schedule was announced in April, the Falcons seemed a lock to again rank among the NFL’s foremost teams by the time Bills in Toronto VI rolled around on Dec. 1.

As it is, the Falcons have just half as many victories as the 4-7 Buffalo Bills. Sunday's kickoff at the Rogers Centre is 4 p.m. EST (Sportsnet, Citytv).

Roster changeups and key injuries have played an enormous role in Atlanta’s freefall.
