Outside of Oakland, or maybe certain precincts of the fantasy football world, nobody probably paid a lot of attention to Matt McGloin on Sunday.

Pressed into service when quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s knee strain flared up just two days before the Raiders game at Houston, all McGloin did was make a little bit of history against the Texans.

On Sunday, against Houston’s stingy pass defence (No. 1 in the league), McGloin completed 18 of 32 passes for 197 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, an accomplishment unmatched by an undrafted rookie since the 1967 merger. Those who had other professional experience — such as Warren Moon and Dieter Brock — before their first year in the NFL are not considered rookies.

Now nobody is predicting this is the birth of the next Peyton Manning but remember that these are the Raiders and it doesn’t take much to get them excited since they haven’t had a QB to make a fuss about in this century.
