At the halfway point of the season, the separation of the haves and have-nots has begun.

The trick at this point is trying to figure which teams remain a good bet to make a play in the wild-card chase.

In the AFC, one of the spots figures to go to the loser of the Denver-Kansas City tussle in the West Division. It’s hard to see how either of those teams could crash and burn and fall right out of the playoff picture.

So, what does that mean as far as the second wild-card spot?

Right now, San Diego (4-3) is the team that holds that pick. It should be in a race to the wire with the Baltimore Ravens (3-4).

Coming off their bye week, the Chargers head to Washington to face the Redskins in what is a ‘must’ win situation for them. It’s a must-win win situation given the remaining games on their schedule.
