The NFL trade deadline is much like the weather in the southwest — a lot of hot air.

For the umpteenth time and counting, the deadline came and went Tuesday afternoon with plenty of smoke and mirrors and not a whole lot of action.

Rumours ruled the roost but when push came to shove, few general managers wanted to get into the game.

Jared Allen? His career is on ice in Minnesota.

Larry Fitzgerald? He’s chillin’ in the desert.

Tony Gonzalez? Going down with the ship in Atlanta.

Josh Gordon? Remains in mistake by the lake.

And on it goes, a treadmill going nowhere.

Big deal of the day? How about 330-pound nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga moving to New England from Philadelphia for a fifth-round draft pick.

In some cities that’s news. Not here.
