If you put the names Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Julio Jones, Victor Cruz, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, Justin Tuck, Troy Polamalu and Lawrence Timmons all in the same sentence, the logical conclusion would be that you were having a discussion about the starting Pro Bowl lineups.

In past years, that may have been true.

But in the nightmare that has become the 2013 season for all these players, the topic de jour now centres around how this cache of stars and their high-profile teams may already be out of playoff contention by Thanksgiving.

Just to be clear, we’re referring to this weekend’s Canadian Thanksgiving day folks, not the U.S. turkey day that takes place in late November.

No matter which way you analyze it, the fact that the Atlanta Falcons (1-4), Pittsburgh Steelers (0-4) and New York Giants (0-6) are a combined 1-14 is stunning, an eye-popping number that has sent shock waves through the football world.
