The NFL season has hit the quarter pole, and more than a few head coaches are being skewered by it.

From Gary Kubiak in Houston to college wunderkind Chip Kelly in Philadelphia to frat brother Greg Schiano in Tampa Bay, it’s time to put on the teflon overcoats.

Flak protectors are definitely in order in New York where Mark Sanchez is headed for surgery, while Rex Ryan is just being figuratively carved.

First, Ryan is being blamed for getting Sanchez injured by putting him into a meaningless preseason game behind an ill-equipped offensive line. That didn’t matter so much when rookie Geno Smith was the flavour-of-week.

But now that Smith is throwing away passes and dropping fumbles with as much frequency as his coach drops F-bombs, Ryan’s perceived numbskull quotient is once again on the rise in the social, and traditional, media.
