Wait a minute. Matt Schaub didn't audible out of the awful play that resulted in a late game-tying touchdown by Seattle because ... he couldn't?

Because his Houston Texans coaches didn't empower him to make such an override?

It's true.

On Monday Texans head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed it.

With Houston leading Seattle 20-13 on Sunday, and only 2:40 remaining, the Texans faced a 3rd-and-3 on their own 40. Schaub threw to tight end Owen Daniels in the flat but Seattle's Richard Sherman -- the best cornerback in the league -- jumped the route, intercepted, and ran it back 58 yards for a touchdown that forced overtime.

The Seahawks won 23-20.

Kubiak explained that -- incredibly -- his quarterback had no ability to change the play as sent in.

"No, once we called it, started the (man in) motion, it was game on," Kubiak said. "So we just had a very, very poor play, like I told you."

Unreal.
