Trent Richardson got a call from a friend early Wednesday evening in Cleveland.
“He was like, ‘You got traded?’ And I was like, ‘Man, shut up talking to me. Get off my phone.’ ”
Then the Cleveland Browns running back turned on the radio. To his shock, he found out his friend had it exactly right. Richardson was now an Indianapolis Colt.
The Browns had traded him for Indy’s first-round draft pick next year. A few hours later, Richardson still hadn’t been officially informed by the Browns, he told 19 Action News in Cleveland and other news outlets, before leaving town.
“I haven’t really talked to nobody yet. I talked to my agent. But it’s a business …
“It just hit me in the face. I didn’t see it coming from anywhere. I had good relations with everybody. But I guess it’s the best move for the Browns. I guess they know what they’re doing.”
That’d be a franchise first.
