As a child in war-torn Congo 12 years ago, Andy Mulumba hoped merely to survive the wretched disease, hunger and violence.
Six years ago, as a student with none of those worries at a French-language post-secondary school in Montreal, Mulumba played football. He had no ambitions to take his game south of the border. He couldn’t even speak much English.
Yet Sunday afternoon, Mulumba makes his NFL debut, backing up Clay Matthews and Nick Perry at outside linebacker on the Green Bay Packers, who open the season against the defending NFC champion 49ers in San Francisco.
An unlikely journey, front to end.
