ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Talk about being thrown to the Lions.

Yes, Matt Leinart stunk. Of course he stunk.

On his fourth day as a Buffalo Bill, in his first week on an NFL team since December and surrounded entirely by backups, the emergency-fodder quarterback started against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night and was absolutely terrible.

As you’d expect.

On the night the NFL’s pre-season schedule mercifully ended, Leinart completed 3-of-10 passes to his Buffalo teammates for 11 yards, and 2-of-10 passes to Lions defenders.

As we said, thrown to the Lions.

In an act of charity, Bills head coach Doug Marrone pulled Leinart after just 18 minutes of this long, meaningless football game played before about 50,000 empty blue and red seats at 73,967-seat Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Leinart was replaced by Thad Lewis, another quarterback the Bills acquired Sunday in a trade with Detroit. He fared little better, for the same reasons.
