It took the NFL draft only 27 minutes before the first bombshell dropped.
The experts had the first part pegged. The Oakland Raiders would likely be dealing the third overall pick.
The guys doing the mock drafts — the Mike Mayocks of the world — had to pencil in a pick for the Raiders but, as Mayock made very clear from the beginning of the NFL Network telecast of the draft, he fully expected the Raiders to move the pick.
And they did. They even moved it to the Miami Dolphins, the team Mayock admitted he had been expecting “all day” to be on the receiving end.
Then the first shock wave hit. Instead of shoring up their left tackle vacancy (so long, Jake Long) with Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson as Mayock suggested was the slam dunk, they went for defensive help in Oregon linebacker/defensive end Dion Jordan.
Mayock wasn’t the only one surprised. This one caught everyone off-guard.
