Bills GM Buddy Nix talks quarterbacks, past and future

PHOENIX - How dire is the Buffalo Bills' situation at quarterback?

They're the only team in the NFL currently without a signal-caller who played a single down last season.

Tarvaris Jackson is the only QB the club has under contract, and he was a game-day scratch every week in 2012.

The club cut three-year starter Ryan Fitzpatrick last week and his backup, Tyler Thigpen, is a free agent not expected to return.

On Monday, I had a chance to sit down for 10 minutes with Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix at the Arizona Biltmore hotel, during the lunch break on Day 1 of the NFL's annual meeting.

Here's what Nix had to say about the Bills' quarterback situation, regarding options in the draft (the Bills have the No. 8 overall pick), via trade or free agency:

Is first round pick Eric Fisher a decent choice by the Kansas City Chiefs?
  Yes.
  No.
He has to prove himself before I decide.
