Dolphins make huge splash, spend $100M on Wallace, Ellerbe

The Dolphins made the biggest splash as NFL free agency kicked off Tuesday at 4 p.m. EDT.

Miami, a club that has been ridiculed in recent years for missing their targeted man more often than Jack McGee on that old Incredible Hulk TV show, finally sealed the deal -- twice.

Not even one minute after the market opened, word came that the Dolphins had agreed to terms with the top free-agent wide receiver -- Mike Wallace, formerly of Pittsburgh.

Not even two hours later came word that the Dolphins also had signed the top free-agent linebacker -- Dannell Ellerbe, formerly of Baltimore.

Combined, those two signings amounted to $100 million -- chump change for billionaire owner Stephen Ross.

The Dolphins also re-signed starting safety Chris Clemons.

About one-quarter of the NFL’s players -- 524 -- became free agents as the new league year began.

Do you think Chad Johnson can still play at a high level in the NFL?
Yes, he is a talented receiver
No, he is too old to play
CFL might be a better option
