The Steelers and wide receiver Plaxico Burress have agreed to a non-guaranteed, one-year contract according to multiple reports.

Based on its own salary cap limitations, Pittsburgh is resigned to losing unrestricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace. General manager Kevin Colbert said in February that he plans to address the position in the offseason, and could do so in the 2013 NFL Draft in April.

Burress caught three passes for 42 yards and one touchdown in 2012, He signed with the Steelers in November and played in four games after being unemployed for most of the season.

Burress, 35, would have to make the Steelers’ 53-man regular-season roster to guarantee his base salary.

In 2011, Burress started 13 games with the New York Jets and caught 45 passes and eight touchdowns. It was his first season back in the NFL after an 18-month prison sentence on a weapons charge.

He had 33 touchdown catches in four seasons with the Giants (2005-2008).
