John Harbaugh gets statue treatment at alma mater By The Sports Xchange

Coach John Harbaugh, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a victory in Super Bowl XLVII earlier this month, will be honored with a statue of himself at Miami (Ohio) University, the school announced Tuesday.

Harbaugh, a 1984 graduate, will be honored with a statue at Yager Stadium and will be inducted into the Cradle of Coaches Association. The statue, which is scheduled to be unveiled early next year, will depict him on the sideline coaching in the Super Bowl.

“Miami is a very special place and as anyone who played or coached at Miami knows that the Cradle of Coaches is a great honor,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “To me, there is no greater recognition in coaching. To be included with these great men is something only dreamed about.”

The other coaches honored for their time at the school include Paul Brown, Carm Cozza, Wilbur “Weeb” Ewbank, Ara Parseghian and Glenn “Bo” Schembechler. Among that group, only Ewbank and Harbaugh won a Super Bowl.

Harbaugh has a 54-26 NFL record and is the only NFL coach since the 1970 merger to win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons.
