Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner came into the final day of the NFL Combine as a potential top-10 pick.

When the sun set Tuesday he had confounded the experts and blazed a trail into the top five.

One of the outstanding cover men in the draft, analysts such as Mel Kiper at ESPN and NFL Network crystal ball gazer Mike Mayock questioned whether he had the speed to be an elite NFL defender.

“I happen to think number four (the Eagles’ pick) is a little high for Dee Milliner. I think he’s a heck of a football player ... I don’t think he’s that explosive 4.35 kind of 40 guy,” Mayock said before the Combine.

Kiper came in with similar misgiving. “Do I think he’s elite? No. I think it’s a stretch at four and five.”

Well, hold those thoughts.
