Cowboys willing to bet future on Tony Romo

Tony Romo is heading into the final year of his contract.

So, the Dallas Cowboys need to ask themselves: Is Romo too bedeviled, too unlucky, too inconsistent and too timorous under pressure, ever to lead them to a Super Bowl? Or, is he just Joe Flacco, without the happy ending, so far.

It appears they believe he is the latter, and that someday Romo — like Flacco — will knock down the walls of his own Jericho.

So, it is that Executive vice-president Stephen Jones said this week the team wants to sign its misconceived, yet talented, quarterback to a long-term contract extension.

“Tony is a key piece of what we’re about,” Jones said. “We’ve historically (extended contracts) with quarterbacks ahead of time. We did it with Troy (Aikman) and we certainly want to look at that with Tony so we can all move forward in terms of how we want to play around our salary cap. Tony is the key piece in terms of how your cap is represented.”
