They took one of the league’s brightest coaches, they’re dipping into CFL rosters, and now it appears the National Football League might just take the whole, darn Canadian game.
First the Chicago Bears plucked Marc Trestman from the Alouettes to be their coach.
The Vikings this week signed Eskimos all-star cornerback Roderick Williams, and several others are expected to head south in the next few weeks.
And now, the NFL’s competition committee has studied widening the field — although it won’t do anything about it for the moment — in hopes it might improve safety.
The NFL field is currently 160 feet wide, compared to the CFL’s 195 feet. Former NFL general manager Bill Polian, who also won Grey Cups with Montreal and Winnipeg, told the Chicago Tribune that more field space could reduce high-impact hits.
And, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is all over that idea like stink on a skunk.
