MOBILE, ALA. - Full credit to Sean Payton.

On his first full day back on the job as head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Payton addressed a swarm of reporters and cameramen late Wednesday morning here at the Senior Bowl.

Here's what you want to know.

In his first public comments in 10 months since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell slapped him with a season-long suspension over the Saints' pay-to-injure scandal, Payton was humble.

He was contrite. He was professional. He did not try to convince anyone that he agreed with the punishment, but neither did he show any bitterness.

Indeed, perhaps most importantly, Payton displayed no animosity whatsoever toward NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

In short, Sean Payton said all of the right things and made you believe him.

"I'm excited to be back. Getting back into a routine is a priority right now. There's a lot we have to do," Payton said at the top of his opening remarks, before answering questions for more than 40 minutes

"I really appreciate the time I was able to spend with the commissioner on Monday. We met for four-and-a-half hours, and we really had a chance to cover a lot of topics."
