Jets GM search becoming battle of attrition

Wanted: General manager.

Location: New York City. Poor side of tracks.

Job Description: Must have confidence in high-visibility atmosphere. Must convince New York media there is an NFL team in town not named the Giants. Comfortable inheriting loud-mouth head coach, one quarterback who doesn’t have a prayer and backup who has nothing but a prayer. Sanity optional.

Compensation: Position includes $1 million towards apartment. (Of course, in downtown New York, that should just about get a parking space with a big cardboard box.)

There are only 32 general managers in the NFL and so far the New York Jets can’t give their GM position away.

OK, the Alouettes’ Jim Popp would take the job.
